About us

Mellon Medical was founded with a clear mission: to develop an innovative surgical tool that elevates abdominal wall fascia closure to a new standard by enabling a precise and consistent small‑bite suturing technique that also speeds up the procedure and is handy and easy to use.

Driven by this vision, we set out to design the ideal suturing device - and then to build it. In close collaboration with surgeons, medical specialists, industrial designers, and ergonomics experts, we have reimagined suture practices, enhanced surgical stitches, and brought next‑generation technology into the hands of today’s operating teams.

Our mission is to improve patient care by redefining secure abdominal wall closure and strengthening outcomes in abdominal surgery.
With the Switch®, our advanced suturing device, we support surgeons performing the most demanding procedures. By enhancing surgical precision and consistency, we aim to reduce complications, improve patient outcomes, and lower overall healthcare costs through improved abdominal wall integrity, optimized wound closure, and a deeper understanding of abdominal wall layers.

Our investors: BioGeneration Ventures, Brabantse Ontwikkelings Maatschappij, David E.I. Pyott Trust, Demcon, Participatiemaatschappij Oost Nederland and Thuja Capital - play a vital role in our long‑term success. Their support enables us to develop the next generation of suture technology, advance innovation in suture material, and further refine approaches such as continuous suturing, helping us bring a clinically validated, market‑ready product to operating rooms worldwide.

Leading experts in Abdominal Wall Reconstruction are actively supporting us in the development and clinical evaluation of our innovative small‑bites suturing device, the Switch®. Top surgeons from the Netherlands, Europe and the United States guide our engineering and clinical teams throughout every stage of product development, ensuring that each iteration aligns with the highest standards of modern surgical practice.

The advisory board’s commitment is grounded in robust clinical evidence: studies have shown that the small‑bites suturing technique significantly reduces postoperative complications such as incisional hernias, leading to improved patient outcomes and lower healthcare costs through fewer reoperations.

A key part of our development strategy is our collaboration with Erasmus Medical Center (Erasmus MC Rotterdam), the renowned academic hospital whose research helped establish small‑bites suturing as the superior standard for abdominal wall closure. Erasmus MC serves as a crucial clinical validation partner, working closely with us to test and validate the Switch® device and its dedicated suture set in real surgical environments.

This partnership strengthens our mission to transform abdominal wall closure by making precision small‑bites suturing faster, more consistent and easier to perform, ultimately enhancing surgical quality and reducing global healthcare expenditures.
